Biology grad students go to Vieques to lay eyes on mangroves, crabs, more

“The west side of the island is wet subtropical forest and the east part is dry subtropical forest.

Since the island became a national wildlife refuge, the government has been trying to identify the types of species that are present. Albrecht has been taking students to help identify species for the past six years.

“I think it’s a good learning experience because we are doing useful work. We are helping the refuge do work they don’t have manpower to do,” Albrecht said.”
