Vieques Island, Puerto Rico

Vieques is located 8 miles east of Puerto Rico in the Caribbean Sea at Coordinates 18.1269° N, 65.4239° W. At only 21 miles long and 4 miles wide, this tiny island’s name is derived from the Taíno Indian word “bieke“ meaning “small island”. Vieques island also has the nickname “Isla Nina” which translates as “Little Girl Island”. Puerto Rico and Vieques are US Commonwealth territories therefore, US citizens do not need a passport.

About 25 minutes by air from Puerto Rico you quickly lose yourself in beach settings you've only dreamed about.

Heavenly Blue beaches with not a building in sight, begging to be explored. A must see is Vieques’ Mosquito Bay, one of the last Bioluminescent Bays left on the planet, this bio bay was named the brightest in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records. Vieques has a small population of around 9,000 people and the native language is Spanish although most locals speak English.

Weather in Vieques is consistent, with only minor changes in temperature annually. The average daytime temperature on Vieques Island throughout the year is 84° to 88° Fahrenheit, increasing only slightly in the summer. Temperatures at night are approximately 10° F lower.

The water temperatures vary between 74° to 80° F so swimming, snorkeling and diving is enjoyable year round. August through late October is rainy season, which can bring high winds and heavy rains, however that does not mean there will be rain, just the possibility of it. You can have 3 days of rain followed by 5 days of Sunshine and clear skies, its up to mother nature. BEST TIME TO VISIT
